Tuesday 27th July - HOB v WG's @ The YMCA Previous matches............ Despite a knock of 33 from debutant Richie Shaw the Old Boys slumped to 133 all out in under 28 overs away to Wrington. A 4 fer from JS Smith and 2 fer from AR Barrett pushed Wrington all the way but they finally secured the win in the 35th over with just 1 wicket in hand. scorecard / match report / photos The HOBs welcomed back two old faces to the team last night & both were soon in the action, J Brown holding onto a catch at mid wicket & SJ Pandya-Smith claiming a run out with a direct hit as Laz XI finished on 132 for 9. A Barry & JPS Osmond got the Old Boys off to a good start, backed up from solid knocks from first JS Smith & then WH Thomas as Henleaze chase down the target with an over to spare scorecard / match report / photos EC Davies picked up his 100th & 101st wicket and also registered his 12th half century for the club as HOBs eased to a 6 wicket victory against MCC (who had a really fit German Girl playing for them!). Other noticable contributions were MD Serjeant who hit a brisk 31 not out. scorecard / match report / photos After 108 games HOB suffer their first rain abandoned match. Soaked in the field for 40 overs whilst Travellers racked up 198 for 7 it was a good job too! scorecard / match report / photos Frampton hit the winning runs with only 2 balls to spare in a closely fought game. A rear guard action from Thomas (32 not out) saw Henleaze post 125 for 8 & after early Frampton wickets fell the Old Boys were in the driving seat however some big shots from their number 7 just saw them home. scorecard / match report / photos AR Barrett produced his best ever bowling figures - 5 for 16 as the Old Boys dismissed Pearce for 83 before hammering home the win inside 16 overs with PM Ashford top scoring with 22. This was Pearce's first league defeat of the season and gives Henleaze a chance of holding on the their title. scorecard / match report / photos A superb batting display ensured HOBs kept their Construction League title hopes alive with a 6 wicket win against Renishaw. Slopply fielding resulted in Renishaw posting 131 for 5 but sensible batting from EC Davies & PM Ashford set the foundations for JS Smith, A Barry & T Loughran to see us home with an over to spare! scorecard / match report / photos EC Davies scored his 11th half century for the club, finishing on 64 not out as HOBs set Fishponds 152 to win. After the fall of early wickets, a middle order revival saw Fishponds needing 37 from the final 3 overs with 4 wickets in hand but 'Hoover' Thomas came on & sucked up the tail in 11 balls, finishing with figures of 6 for 3 as Henleaze ran out winners by 16 runs. scorecard / match report / photos A very close game saw the old boys lose by 1 run against MCC at Shirehampton on a pudding of a pitch. After keeping MCC down to 84 HOBs got off to the worst possible start, 4 wickets down for just 6 runs! A middle order fight back saw us ahead of the rate but after a couple of run outs new batsmen were at the crease and we could only make it 83. scorecard / match report / photos After a disappointing defeat in the last game HOBs were back in the winning groove, beating Chepstow by 14 runs. Batting first, The Old Boys posted 207 with A Barry top scoring with 66. An excellent bowling & fielding display meant Chepstow could only muster 193 from their allotted overs with Adams (3/30) & SH Lambshead (2/39) being the pick of the bowlers. scorecard / match report / photos HOBs suffered their 2nd league defeat of the season last night, this time against Bushwackers. Chasing 136 to win the Old Boys fell 5 runs short of their target, JS Smith once again top scoring with 33. scorecard / match report / photos After a promising start, HOBs slumped from 87-1 to 112-9 from their allotted 20 overs, ED Davies top scoring with 42. Despite a below par total the HOBbers took to the field in determined mood and soon had Whicheloe on the back foot, eventually winning by 9 runs! AR Barrett was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 wickets for 9 runs from his 4 overs which saw him pick up the Man of The Match award. scorecard / match report / photos PM Ashford was voted Man of the Match after posting 74 with the bat as HOBs totalled 136 for 6 from their 20 overs. Despite a slightly lacklustre display in the field the old boys eventually ran out winners by 17 runs after Gremlins could only manage 119 for 4. scorecard / match report / photos Half centuries from EC Davies (93), A Barry (74) and JS Smith (72*) saw HOBs post 289 for 4 on what was a very hot day! In return Venturers got off to a decent start so Captain Davies turned to JSP Osmond who produced a Man of the Match bowling display, taking 5 for 40 from 7.4 overs as the Old Boys sweated to a 61 run victory, bowling the opposition out for 228 scorecard / match report / photos The Old Boys suffered a heavy defeat in their first league match of the season after Hope had set them 161 to win. A bad day at the office for all but sometimes you have to face facts and last night we were beaten by a far better team. Role on next week! scorecard / match report / photos Having batted first, HOBs set Fishponds a below par score of 105 to win but after a tight spell of opening bowling from Barrett & Hawksley in which they both claimed 2 wickets, a Henleaze were on their way to a 41 run win! JS Smith was awarded the Man of The Match for probably his best spell of bowling for HOBs, 2 overs, 2 maidens, 0 runs for 3 wickets! (and also for getting out the clam and holding on to a cloud brusher!) scorecard / match report / photos After a slow start, MD Serjeant & JS Smith put on 85 for the 4th wicket partnership & set Failand 132 to win. However, we failed to contain the Failand middle order & lost by 5 wickets. scorecard / match report / photos 2010 Results.........Played...17...Won...10...Lost...6...Tied...0...Abandoned...1 Scorecards, match reports and photos of our previous seasons can be viewed in the fixtures & results page Overall Results.........Played...111...Won...74...Lost...33...Tied...3...Abandoned...1 Spotted a mistake on this website, fancy giving us a game or just want to get in touch?
