Match Report

Henleaze Old Boys v Travellers
Sunday 4th July at The YMCA

By AM Fillingham

This was a wet one, the wettest one we've ever played (well, maybe that fishponds one a few years ago was wetter). Anyway it was wet, so wet in fact this is the first game (and hopefully the last) that we have had to abandon in 100 plus games. Not bad going seen as how shit the English summer usually is!

Today we were playing a load of travellers, caravans in the carpark, horses tied to the scorebox, stray dogs biting people, stu got his bike nicked but at least Tom Loughran felt right at home.

Not only were these travelling folk thieving bastards they were also cheating bastards, or at least their opening bat was, clearly edging one behind in the first over from Smith but refusing to walk. Fillingham did keep reminding him of this until he eventually departed for 47. How does that man sleep at night?? Probably with a shot gun under his pillow.

Smith did manage to pick up 2 wickets, one a catch from Adams, the other being lbw. Underused token HOB gipsy Lofty Loughran (I'll stop taking the piss once you get yer match report in) finished with 1 for 3 from 2 overs with Anth 'only 3 drops from my bowling today' Barrett, Ed 'you want a flake in that 99' Davies and Jimmy '2 fer' Osmond taking the others.

So, on a rain soaked pudding of a pitch (I think the rain improved the state of the strip to be honest) the travellers made 198 for 7.

Tea was enjoyed by all (A&E Catering Contractors), a bit too much by some players and no one seemed keen to get back out there on an average maiming wicket . For once Adams was pleading for people to opening the batting and just as Davies and Serjeant strapped on their dildos er I mean pads the game was called off.

Back to the pavilion for another cake because I really needed it.
