Frampton v Henleaze Old Boys
Thursday 1st July at Frampton

By P Trahar

Following a number of weeks of gorgeous weather, Ra decided it was time to have a rest and left the old boys out in the fram with just Huey and Deities for company. And some WI doing dog training, 'stop'!

Having broken the mould Stu decided to win the toss, and wisely chose for us to bat. What with it looking like it was going to chuck it down within the hour, just standing in the field (at a cost of £3) on the outskirts of Bristol could have been a frustrating sojourn for a Thursday night. It would be fair to say that a number of HOB's batsman didn't really turn up to the party. Swishing, slogging, getting bowled, caught etc. Some aggressive bowling from the fram was doing a number on us. The obvious initial diamond in the rough was Craig, our resident owner of the best breakfast in the south west, who played some lovely strokes before being unlucky to get caught.

Sam and Lofty put on a good stand with some cracking shots that got the response from their captain of, 'well at least it will give us something to bowl at'... Just as things were looking positive Lofty got out, he must have gone quicker than a sidewinder scuttling over sand. There was no waiting for the finger there to see if he was out of his crease or not! Bat, under arm and straight off!!

Thomas and Barry carried on the good work with some fine shots leaving some of their bowlers exacerbated by being knocked all over the park. Some of Will's 'there's 3 there' seemed a bit ambitious, but luckily they stuck to 2's (and boundaries) and the old boys ended up with a respectable 125. Ashley got bowled by a 10 year old…. Bad luck Ash...

The clouds gathered and the heavens (sort of) opened for our turn in the field, which resulted in all the fram players sitting in the club house not actually watching the game! Had they chosen to they would have realised as they dropped one by one they were actually in a game and it wasn't just batting practice. Captain Adams put in a sterling performance with the ball taking 26-3 off 4 and Thomas came up trumps with the ball again ending up with 18-2 off 4. Lofty had them all in stitches and was unlucky to only get a single wicket, the spinning fantastic deserved more!

Unfortunately as the darkness descended it became increasingly difficult to keep the field tight. A few boundaries snuck through, with the occasional wallop from the opposition over mid off got them home with just 2 balls to spare.
