Match Report
Renishaw
v Henleaze Old Boys
Thursday 17th June at Long Ashton
By EC Davies
|
A must win game for the HOB's if we were to stand any chance of retaining our league trophy. The match was switched from the YMCA to Long Ashton CC which both sides were happy about as the match would be taking place on a decent wicket! Captain Adams lost the toss and we were in the field. How would we fair chasing a total down? Renishaw got off to a flyer, which was mainly due to some wayward bowling on our behalf and some shoddy fielding. T Loughran was brought on and used all his guile to almost single handedly bring the HOB's back into the match, one wicket brought two, brought three! T Loughran finishing with a very tidy 3-12 off his allotted overs. S Adams and EC Davies were steady enough but again some errors in the fielding department meant that the 131 for 5 that Renishaw ended up on could have been have significantly less. Credit must go to Renishaw opening bat, Dimery, who hit a composed 57 not out. So would our fielding cost us dearly. EC Davies opening with PM Ashford set the tone for the inning with some good running between the wickets, together with PM Ashford mixing it with a few mighty blows. However, both openers fell in quick succession which is far from ideal. The experienced duo of JS Smith and A Barry got stuck in. JS Smith opening his shoulders dispatching anything short and wide, whilst A Barry played a more cautious knock. JS Smith finished up getting out for 39 whilst A Barry followed not long after for 23. Would this signal another famous HOB's batting collapse? Thankfully not. It was left to Messer's Loughran and Fillingham to knock off the few required to reach the target of 132 with an over to spare. A good batting display let our bowling (except for T Loughran) and fielding off the hook. Just imagine what we could do if all aspects of our game came together! Man of the match duly went to T Loughran for his bowling and finishing the game with the bat in style. |
