After losing our first game of the season in a high scoring encounter against Failand & Portbury it was imperative that we got off the mark at Stapleton against Fishponds. As always, most of the chaps turned up late again, (Anth is the exception to this, he was patiently waiting on a bench for his team mates to arrive). I arrived at 5.35pm, after walking from the Wellington Public House (surely that must be a good 3-4 miles) Anyway onto the game...... Ed was skipper for the evening, in the absence of Captain Adams. Not sure if he won the toss, but we batted first anyway. Ashley & Nick opened up. I say opened up, to be fair the runs were flowing like a cascading waterfall........during a 6 month drought in the heart of the Sahara. Nick was soon plodding back to join us after a few minutes with his head down, scoring a stunning 0 (50p fine) At the other end Fillingham was struggling to get bat on ball, but was plugging away valliantly. Next in was Mickey (run out) Pearce . And out he went. Surprisingly run out for 7. Next up was Andy (Gareth ridiculously slow) Barry who hit an impressive 32 (5 four's) before being bowled. I am not sure whether Ash was still in at this point because it has taken me so long to write this report however, he made 16 before being bowled. The following gentlemen made the following runs with an end of innings total of 104 for 8 Sam = 1 Jon = 9 Myself = 9 Ed = 11 not out Dave = 1 Jimmy = 3 not out So, not a very big total, especially on a very small pitch. We would have to bowl and field exceptionally well indeed to keep the Ponds under 104. The bowlers really did stand up and be counted. They were superb and the fielding was might fine also. To be fair I just want to finish this report now. If I ever, for some bizarre reason decide to write a book, I clearly will have died of old age before finishing the first chapter. That in mind, please see scorecard for the outstanding effort by our cherry throwers. Yours thankfully finished Sarj. x |
