Match Report

Henleaze Old Boys v Renishaw
Thursday 11th June at The YMCA

By WH Thomas

May I first say how sorry I am for breaking a new HOBs record. This surely must be the longest and most feeble attempt at writing a match report. I have spent many a night thinking about Mr. Lambsheads' offer of report writing services, but since he took on the Nisbetts job his rate has gone up and I play to much cricket to afford that.

Nine weeks ago when we were all much younger, so was the cricket season and we had a league match against the PJ wearing Renishaw. It was an awesome display of 20/20. Stuff legends are made from. 23 boundaries were scored by HOBs as the highest league total (184 - 2) was posted. MOTM P. Searjeant (74 NO), still unworried by the wait of the ring put his head down and knocked the ball around all over the place and was well supported by some others to look like we were worthy defenders of the league title. Chase that.

And chase that they tried. I would say we bowled well, fielded tightly and blew them away, but a) I can't remember and b) we probably didn't 'cause they got within 10 runs of beating us. But that is enough about them. We won and well played HOBs.

I am truly sorry for setting a bad example. I enjoy playing for HOBs and with that comes a certain level of responsibilities. I have not lived up to those and have duly fined myself 10 dropped catches for poor performance.

Nine weeks. That's pretty poor!
