Well after 3 years I've finally been forced to write a match report so here goes…….. We won and as usual I was mint mind. It was a strange and unusual start to the game, firstly I was shocked but pleasantly surprised and disturbingly aroused by the sight of Al Pearce making a rare appearance. I was even more shocked at what was to follow....Hobbs winning the toss and electing to bat first. Zographou doesn't like change but decided to go with the flow. Stu (I cycle 10,000 miles a year) Adams and Ashley (the fat breeder) Fillingham opened the batting and what a partnership...both being bowled out for a whopping 7. Stu (2), Ashley (5). Al (the half marathon man) Pearce was called into action to get the team up to a respectable score and that he did. A hard fought performance finally gave way after he was bowled out for an impressive single. Up next was Jon (sloth/Ian Dowie/Jabba the Hut) Smith. Some fine batting saw Jon get up to 15 but was unfortunate to see a good shot being caught on the boundary. Steady Eddie Davies stepped up with is tiny little legs and Captain Joachim Smith with his gigantic legs formed a great partnership hitting 74 runs between them. Jo was finally caught for 25 and Anth (chicken pox) Barrett and our Baz hit 4 runs each taking our score to 120. Ed was unable to score a run on the last ball and got 49 not out. Unlucky but well done Edward. Me and breath Michael breath Sarjeant never got a chance to bat but had we done there was no doubt in my mind that we would have smashed 50 runs between us....oh yes. It has to be noted that Stoke Druids fielding was excellent so we did really well to get a score of 120. A great opening spell by Lee (the knee) Caller and Barrett saw them both claim a wicket and Druids only managing 21 of 8 overs. The Sloth got another 2 wickets establishing him as one of Hobs best bowlers. 2 more wickets fell, both by Adams. Excellent field work by Hobs meant Druid never really looked like winning and the pressure was added after 2 more went out caught by Jo and Ash. I don't care how many catches Ash makes, he'll never live down that easy catch he dropped when everyone fell to the ground laughing at him. Ed, Jo and Mike finished off the game with some fine bowling of their own as Stoke Druid could only manage 88 of 20 overs. |
