Monday 24th July 2006 at The YMCA, Golden Hill

This was to be the second match for our new skip, and in true traditional HOB style we were to take the field first. Smith and Barrett proceeded to open the bowling and were unlucky not to take the openers scalps, with disciplined line and length deliveries. Hough came on first change and immediately got the break through. The batsmen facing struck the ball back in the direction of the bowlers' follow through and with the slightest of touches Hough managed to deflect the ball onto the stumps leaving the non striker stranded out of the crease. With his confidence now brimming Hough managed to grab another wicket, this time aided by Serjeant who took a great catch at point. Adams and Davies came on in the middle of City Clarks innings and kept the runs to a minimum with each bowler picking up one wicket. Our new recruit Tabb, rolled back the years offering some off spin and despite being hit for a few hefty blows managed to contribute a wicket when Pearce held an excellent catch in the deep. The skip took the responsibility of bowling at the death picking up three reasonable cheap wickets, adding to what has been so far for him a successful all round season. Their total of 121 was felt to be well with our grasp, especially as our new opening partnership of Serjeant and Zographou gave us a blistering start, bettering their opening partnership in the previous game by two runs to put on a quickfire 37. Serjeant was caressing the ball through the off side before falling for 36, whilst Zographou, gaining in confidence with every innings, made it into double figures again. The other main contributions of the innings was the partnership between SJ Smith and Clements, adding 57 for the fourth wicket. SJ Smith capitalised on some inconsistent bowling together with a short leg side boundary, with 26 of his 40 runs coming in boundaries. HOBs reached the target with a comfortable 8 balls to spare! Once again our fielding skills looked sharp, and coupled together with our improving bowling and batting line up, we know we can be a match for any side. Phil Serjeant was named Man of the Match for a fluent 36 and for his safe pair of hands. |
